There’s nothing more romantic and joyful than Italian food. Here is a list of places where you can find it in the ‘City of Joy’.
Are you looking for a place to impress your girlfriend? Hushh, at the City Centre is the perfect choice. This romantic lounge bar and restaurant is spread over split levels: you can sit in the indoor air-conditioned section or take the flight of stairs that lead to the open gazebo terrace overlooking the beautifully lit township of Salt Lake. Hushh launched a new branch in South City Mall last year, but this one is more of a resto-bar. The Seafood Grill, wood-fire pizzas, pastas and pesto are paired with world wines, heady cocktails and mocktails — Italian Smoothie, Mint Italiano — at City Centre, while at South City the menu extends beyond to Continental fare and sizzlers.
Yet another gem from Hyatt Regency Kolkata, La Cucina is the only fine-dining, Italian-speciality restaurant in the city. It is one of the few places in the city which gives an international gourmet experience. The décor, too, is pleasing to the eye: a discreet entrance, contemporary interiors, signature Italian cuisine, interactive kitchen, an impressive wine list and many sit-down wine dinners set La Cucina apart from most top-notch restaurants of the city.
We surely need more of these small stand alone, to stand on their feet in Calcutta. The classic bistro feel at the Vanilla Creperie, bang on Elgin Road, with its pleasant sparkle, gives a positive vibe. Calcutta, though a tad slow, is getting there!
An excellent place for an Italian meal, Spaghetti Kitchen has carved an enviable reputation for themselves and that, too, within a short span of time. Quality ingredients, freshly prepared food, painstaking commitment and a knowledgeable and alert service staff are the reasons for its success. They also have guerdon services, making a meal more interactive and interesting. Spaghetti Kitchen has a huge fan following and you can order anything from their menu and you will savor every mouthful.
Friendly and warm, at first peek, is the all-so-familiar typically yellow Vespa Scooter announcing Serafina. On closer look, slightly dishevelled interiors and clever seating configuration maximising all available space, it is still an inviting oasis in the middle of the posh fifth floor mall. The outdoor seating in the mall cacophony is smart, but not a choice for most. Inside the huge glass facade white washed and bare brick combination walls, red upholstery and dark wood furniture, has a New England feel, in addition to huge hanging cast iron candle-lantern style chandeliers with mellow lighting and the wall mounted wine racks create a cute pastiche.
A superb place for fans of Italian food, Fire n Ice offers a menu that will make a gourmet swoon with delight. As you glance through their menu listings, you will realize that Italian food is much more than pizzas! A glass of red wine or Long Island Iced Tea will enhance the food experience here. Although the service is a dampener here, don’t miss Fire n Ice. Go there for some authentic, above-average Italian flavors.
The long strip of dining area is understated yet contemporary chic, dominated by an elaborate bar counter and a private dining area at the far end. Otherwise, all along the long stretch alcoves with cosy dining tables for small to larger groups dominate. Attention to design details is apparent from its classic seating styles, non-fussy white tableware and diligent bunch of service staff, catering to the buzzing customer needs.
