The BMW K1600GTL and K1600GT are motorcycles announced by BMW Motorrad in July 2010, and unveiled at the Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne in October 2010. The bikes went on sale in March 2011. The K1600GTL is a full dress luxury tourer, which replaces the K1200LT, and is intended to compete with the Honda Gold Wing. The K1600GT is more of a sport tourer similar to the existing K1300GT and previous K1200GT models.

BMW K1600 Overview : The K1600 GT adds flair to BMW Motorrad India’s touring range of motorcycles. The K1600 GT like any other BMW two-wheeler is imported through the CBU route by Navnit Motors and is sold through Navnit’s BMW car dealerships. The flagship K1600 GT is not just a grand tourer but is also the most expensive BMW on two wheels sold in India. The K1600 GT is a particular favorite amongst tourers since the bike is highly customizable for long distance highway touring. The engine coupled with the brilliantly rigid bridge type frame (it uses the engine as a stressed member) ensure that the bike is very relaxed even at triple digit highway speeds.

BMW K1600 Specifications : The inline 6 cylinder engine on the K1600 S GT features an oil/ water cooled, DOHC, electronic fuel injected unit with dry sump lubrication displacing 1649 cc with a bore X stroke ratio of 72 X 67.5 mm and a compression ratio of 12.2:1. Featuring 4 valves per cylinder this unit manages to churn out 158.2 Bhp peak power at 7750 rpm and 175 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. Featuring hollow cams and the cam lobes have been pressed on to reduce weight & inertial.
