Harley-Davidson launched Sportster 1200 at Rs 8.9 lakh.

The much awaited Sportster 1200 finally launched in India. Harley expands its Sportster range in India, replaces older Sportster 883 with the new 1200.

The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom is powered by a 1202cc, air-cooled engine that produces 96 Nm of torque at 3750 RPM, mated to a 5-speed gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels using a chain drive system that is found in most of the cruiser bikes. It also comes with Harley’s sequential fuel injection system. The braking duties are performed by 300 mm dual-piston disc on the front wheel while the rear has the same dual-piston disc.

The Sportster family was the entry point to Harley-Davidson’s product range in India prior to the launch of the affordable Street 750, with the Sportster 883 being its most affordable motorcycle.

The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom looks similar to the recently discontinued SuperLow but it is designed according to the preferences of modern buyers. The new bike rides on Michelin Scorcher tyres specially built for the Sportster family while it has an unladen ride height of 725 mm and it weighs 268 kgs. Other features on board the new 1200 Custom are self-cancelling turn indicators, new instrument cluster, start and trip switch, chrome surroundings around the headlamp and black-powder coated powerplant.

Harley-Davidson’s Indian lineup has gone up to 13 models after the launch of 1200 Custom, of which 8 come into the country via the CKD route. The new motorcycle is now available at all the dealerships of the manufacturer that started its operations in India in 2010. The automaker is gaining popularity among buyers with the launch of affordable bikes such as the Street 750. It is not going to participate at the 2016 Auto Expo due to the increased cost of rent.
