Design & Features

Mercedes has launched the S-class facelift at Rs 1.33 crore for the diesel engine S 350d (ex-showroom, India). While the facelift brings with it cosmetic and feature updates, the big news here is that the S 350d is the first made-in-India BSVI-compliant car.

Exteriors

Exteriors are a little hard to tell. But, the S-Class facelift gets revised airdams, tweaked grille, new headlamps with ‘Ultra Range High Beam’ Multibeam LED units, rear bumper with integral tailpipe and new crystal-look tail-lamps, the headlamps have the ability to scan the road’s surface, bends and more and then send the required info to the S-Class’s AI unit.

Interiors

Inside the Car, the infotainment system gets an upgrade and now there are two 12.3-inch HD screens with a central command unit. There are new wood options for the interior trim and more leather options for upholstery. The seats now also have a ‘fragrance’ function to please your sense of smell. It also gets a 13 speaker, 590W Burmester surround sound system along with a 64 colour ambient lighting system.

Engine

A new 3.0-litre, in-line, six-cylinder diesel motor has replaced the previous 3.0-litre V6 diesel in the new S 350d. In a bid to meet the upcoming BS-VI norms, this new OM656 engine emits 68 percent less nitrous oxide and 82 percent less particulate matter, while running on BS-IV grade fuel. The engine is mated to a nine-speed G-Tronic automatic transmission and churns out a good 28hp more than the previous engine at 286hp. However, the torque figure, at 600Nm, is lower by 20Nm.
