Tata Zest Overview

Launched in 2014, the Tata Zest was the company’s first all new product under its Horizonext product strategy. It’s widely admired for its premium styling, class-leading features and competent engines. Designed with inputs from Tata’s design studios in Pune, Turin (Italy) and Coventry (UK), the compact sedan looks more premium than most Tata cars below Rs. 10 lakh. It gets new signature grille with the new ‘Humanity Line’, trapezoidal lower air dam, projector headlamps with chrome accents, ‘The Diamond DLO’ and ‘Slingshot Line’ on side profile and various other styling elements.

Tata Zest Specifications

The Zest is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Powering the petrol variants is Tata’s self-developed 1.2-litre MPFi turbocharged Revotron engine that churns out a maximum power of 88.73bhp at 5, 000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1, 750rpm to 3, 500rpm. The diesel trims are powered by a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder Quadrajet engine, which produces 88.73bhp with 200Nm. A 5-speed manual transmission and an F-Tronic technology enabled AMT (automated manual transmission) gearbox are on offer. 

Tata Zest Exterior

Based on the company’s new ‘DesignNext’ philosophy, the Zest looks more contemporary and premium than previous Tata cars. On the front end, the car features new signature grille with the new ‘Humanity Line’, trapezoidal lower air dam, projector headlamps with chrome accents, fog lamps, daytime running lights and pronounced hood. The side profile gets ‘The Diamond DLO’ and ‘Slingshot Line’. The bold shoulder creases and wraparound rear styling further enhance its appeal. Other styling elements include a new pair of 15-inches alloy wheels, LED taillights, rear view mirrors, rear bumper with black treatment and well-integrated boot. 

Tata Zest Interior

The cabin layout in the Tata Zest is almost identical to the one that we find on the Bolt. The only major difference is the beige treatment given to the dashboard and door panels to make the otherwise black interiors feel premium. Another thing which the cabin lacks on is the amount of storage spaces and cubby holes as they are available in a very minimalistic number. On the top spec variants the central console gets an automatic climate control unit which is replaced by a standard one on the lower priced options.
