Toyota Fortuner Overview

The undisputed king of SUV category is the Toyota Fortuner which despite retailing at highest Ex-showroom price has maintained its considerable lead over the rivals like Ford Endeavour and Honda CR-V. The highlight of the Fortuner is its intimidating looks which are very well complemented by its large footprints. The new Toyota Fortuner has replaced the old car after seven years of its existence that included a facelift. The new Fortuner has been built on a new platform as against the older TNGA platform. The new platform offers more rigidity and strength as compared to the older platform but is almost 175kg heavier. The new generation Fortuner also gets a new engine and a new drivetrain along with brand new interiors and Lexus-like modern looks.

Toyota Fortuner Engine Specification

Toyota offers the Fortuner with a choice of one turbo-diesel and one naturally-aspirated petrol engine, displacing 2.8 litres and 2.7 litres respectively. The diesel produces 177PS of power and 420Nm (MT)/450Nm (AT) of torque, while the petrol makes 166PS of power and 245Nm of torque. Both versions are available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and while the diesel gets a 6-speed manual, the petrol employs a 5-speed manual gearbox. Claimed efficiency figures stand at 14.24kmpl/12.9kmpl (MT/AT) for the diesel and 10.1kmpl/10.26kmpl (MT/AT) for the petrol.

Toyota Fortuner Exterior

The looks of the Toyota Fortuner have been improved in almost every way possible. It somewhat gets a Land Cruiser-ish front end which makes it look a segment above. The overall design is busy with cuts. The profile is similar to the older car but is now defined by the three design lines of the roof, the upswept shoulder line and the contour on the lower half of the doors. The 200mm ground clearance is evident and it rides on 18-inch alloys for the top-spec car. The tail gets large horizontal LED tail lamps sitting high above the chunky rear bumper. It gets a rear spoiler and the pillar-less look of the Fortuner continues with its presence.

Toyota Fortuner Interior

The interior is now all-black and looks premium. The all-new dashboard design gets modern touches like the exterior and is busy. The centre console gets a new touchscreen system with Bluetooth and steering mounted audio controls. It gets leather upholstery and the seats are power adjustable for the top-spec car. The rear seats are recline adjustable and are split 60-40. The last row is split 50-50 and can be folded up to stow more luggage. There are separate AC vents for the second as well as the third row with bottle holders for each row. The cabin seems to be as spacious as the previous car with good legroom and headroom at least for the front two rows. For safety you have seven airbags for the top-spec car with ABS, EBD as well as A-Trac for the 4×4 variants.
