2023 Nissan Motors has updated its popular compact SUV Magnite to meet the Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms. Now all its variants will get safety features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

At the same time, the company has removed some special features from the car. The LED fog lamps have been dropped from the XV variant of the car which is now only available on the top-spec XV Premium. Apart from this, the rear parcel shelf and front tweeters have also been removed from the mid-spec XL variant. The ex-showroom price of Magnite starts from Rs.5.97 lakhs and goes up to Rs.10.94 lakhs for the top end variant. After updating the car, the company can increase these prices.

Nissan and its partner Renault recently announced a fresh investment of Rs 5,300 crore in the Indian market. The investment will mainly be for six new, locally produced cars and SUVs to be split equally between the two brands. Nissan will get two made-for-India SUVs and an entry-level EV from 2025.

Many features removed with the update

Prior to the update, the turbo-petrol and naturally aspirated variants of the Magnite featured features such as ESC, traction control and hill-start assist, while a tyre pressure monitoring system was available on the higher variants of the turbo and naturally aspirated versions. The Magnite still only comes with double front airbags, while its rivals Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Renault Kiger get at least 4 airbags in the higher variants. Also, Nissan is yet to offer ISOFIX child-seat mounts in the Magnite.

2023 Nissan Magnite SUV: Engine

Nissan has only updated the safety features on the Magnite. No changes have been made to the exterior or mechanicals. The compact SUV still comes with two engine options. It gets a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 71bhp power and 96Nm torque and a 1.0-litre turbo charged-petrol engine that generates 100bhp power and 160Nm torque. Both the engines are tuned with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the turbo-petrol variant also gets a CVT option.

As before, the silhouette and tail-lights of the SUV’s Magnite. Instead of the upright design, the compact SUV from Nissan comes with a crossover-like design like the Nissan Kicks. It features a floating roof design with contrasting paint options. Some styling elements will be shared with the second-gen Juke sold overseas. The Nissan Magnite comes with a sporty appearance and gets sleek-looking LED headlamps upfront with LED DRLs. Moreover, the large wheel arches and alloy wheels lend the vehicle a lot of character.
