Hyundai Motor India launched its electric SUV Ioniq 5 at the Auto Expo last month. Along with this, the company also showcased the Ioniq 6. Now recently, a prototype variant of an electric Creta crossover (codename SU2i EV) from Hyundai was seen for the first time. Now, a test mule of the Hyundai Creta Electric was recently spotted on a trial run on Indian roads, indicating that the electric SUV is almost ready, much ahead of its estimated arrival time. When launched, the Creta EV will directly rival the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YY8 EV. It will also compete with upcoming mid-size SUVs from Mahindra and Tata. Hyundai has targeted retail sales of 20,000 – 25,000 units of the electric Creta on an annual basis.

Hyundai Creta EV: Design

Exterior

In terms of design, Hyundai has followed Tata Motors and Mahindra in modifying the existing ICE-engine platform and making it suitable for a fully electric vehicle. While Tata Motors followed a similar process for its current range of EVs based on the Tiago, Tigor and Nexon, Mahindra did the same with the XUV400, which is based on the XUV300. Instead of relying on the born electric e-GMP architecture, Hyundai chose the Creta Electric’s existing platform to keep production costs under control.

Interior

Instead of a futuristic design on the interior, Hyundai has kept things simple as the cabin is largely similar to the regular version of the Creta SUV. The SUV comes with leather seats as standard along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, soft-touch material for the dashboard, sporty metal pedals and a fully digital instrument cluster. However, the actual cabin features of the ESUV will be decided at the time of unveiling of the car
