EV infrastructure in India: An EV charging station among 393 electric vehicles in the country

1 million EVs sold last year

10 lakh EVs have been sold in the last year itself. That is, there is a public charging station on 393 electric vehicles. There is one charging station worldwide at an average of 10 EV. In China this ratio is 7. According to the report of research agency Counterpoint, by the year 2030, about 20.5 lakh public charging stations may be needed in the country and the speed of their installation will have to be increased by 9 times.

Charging stations in Karnataka, most electric vehicles in UP

Karnataka has the highest number of 774 public charging stations in the country, according to data from the Ministry of Power. After this comes the number of Maharashtra 660, Delhi 539 and Tamil Nadu-442. Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest number of 4.55 lakh registered electric vehicles in the country, has 406 public chargers. That is, a public charging station at about 1,103 EV. There is a need to increase the number of charging stations for electric cars and long distance buses.

Charging infra will increase EV sales in the country

Sohinder Singh Gill, Director General, Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles, said, “The sales of electric vehicles in the country are increasing steadily. Compared to this, the number of public charging stations is very less. If there is a good public charging infrastructure, then EVs, especially cars Sales will increase further.”

Government needs to work together with the private sector

Creating a comprehensive EV charging infrastructure in India requires collaboration of various stakeholders from the government and the private sector. Government and power companies can help meet future needs. While real estate developers, technology parks and businesses can provide charging solutions for customers and residents.
