The company can offer this powerful SUV with a new diesel hybrid engine. According to a media report, the mild hybrid turbo diesel variant of Toyota Fortuner is going to be launched in India soon. When this happens, the Fortuner will be the first Toyota SUV with a new mild hybrid diesel engine. It is being speculated that the new variant of the SUV will be launched by the beginning of next year.
Toyota is currently working on a diesel hybrid powertrain, which is being planned to be included in the new generation Fortuner car. According to the information, it will be a mild-hybrid turbo diesel powertrain, which has been named as GD Hybrid. Also, the Fortuner will be the first Toyota SUV to be powered by this new powertrain.

The new Toyota Fortuner with diesel hybrid engine will be launched by 2023. First of all, this car will be launched in Thailand, after which it will be launched in other markets. The 1GD-FTV 2.8 liter diesel engine will be given in the new Fortuner hybrid version. Like Suzuki’s mild hybrid system, the new Fortuner mild hybrid diesel version will get an integrated starter generator.

Hybrid new-gen Fortuner: Exterior Design
On the outside, the new Hybrid Fortuner comes with a number of notable styling tweaks over the regular Fortuner model. The new model will get a more premium look with a Lexus-like design and grille. Apart from this, modern changes will be seen in the interior with large touch screen and digital instrument cluster. Also, it will be equipped with all advanced features including panoramic sunroof, ADAS features. Apart from, No changes will be made to the base of the new Fortuner model, while the ladder frame chassis will be retained for rigidity. On the other hand, in terms of longer wheelbase, the new Fortuner will be bigger and more spacious than the current one.

Some of the key features of the New-gen Hybrid Fortuner include quad-LED headlamps, LED fog lights, seven airbags, dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, ABS with EBD, powered tail-gate, cruise control, eight . The -inch touchscreen infotainment system is enabled with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, drive modes (Eco, Normal and Sport) and more. Along with being equipped with maximum features of the new generation premium SUV, it will be well equipped and comfortable. It is expected to get ventilated seats, dual zone climate control, connected car technology and a voice assistant.
GD Hybrid Tech Add More Miles To The Car
According to the report, this new mild hybrid diesel engine can be named GD Hybrid. On the mileage front, the new Toyota Fortuner mild hybrid version will be quite fuel efficient and will get on-demand torque. Engine start/stop system will also be given in this SUV. Due to the presence of a mild hybrid system, the new Fortuner will get kinetic energy during braking.
Hybrid Fortuner: Engine Details
The new Fortuner will be powered by a 1GD-FTV mild-hybrid diesel powertrain, paired to a 2.8-litre engine. It is likely to get an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), which is already available with many existing Suzuki mild-hybrid models. However, this time it is being paired with a diesel motor. At the same time, the current Fortuner model is available with two engine options. The Fortuner Sport is powered by the same 2.8-litre diesel engine that makes 201bhp at 3,000 to 3,400rpm and 500Nm of peak torque at 1,600 to 2,800rpm. The unit is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
