Mahindra Thar is set to be launched soon with a new powertrain. Along with this, a new variant will also be launched. The Mahindra Thar will soon get a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which will join the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines in the line-up. The introduction of the 1.5-litre diesel engine will also help the Thar get into a lower tax bracket, given that it is less than four meters long. The Thar 1.5 diesel was showcased to dealers last month at an event in Igatpuri, Maharashtra.

1.5-litre Diesel Mahindra Thar – Launch Date:

As per the media reports, Thar 2WD will go on sale in January 2023 with the smaller 1.5-litre diesel and 2.0 petrol. This month, Maruti Suzuki will unveil the 5-door Jimny at the Auto Expo 2023. However, this time Mahindra will not be present at the Auto Expo.

1.5-litre Diesel Mahindra Thar – Engine Specifications:

Mahindra Thar will be powered by the same 1,497cc 1.5-litre engine unit that currently powers the Marazzo. This engine will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox only, with no automatic gearbox. Also, this engine will only come in 2WD and won’t get the 4WD system that the more expensive Thar 2.2-litre diesel currently has. The sub-four-metre vehicle will come in an affordable range. Spy shots of the interior of the Thar 1.5 diesel also clearly reveal that the low-range gear lever on the center console has been replaced by a new storage console.

Apart from the new 1.5-litre diesel engine, the Mahindra Thar will also come with a 2WD variant of the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Similar to the 1.5-litre diesel 2WD, the Thar 2.0 petrol 2WD will only come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

1.5-litre Diesel Mahindra Thar – Exterior:

Dimensionally the entry level 1.5-litre diesel Thar remains unchanged and gets similar exterior design language like seven slot grille and round headlamps. At the rear, the new Thar gets rectangular shaped taillights that come with ‘Thar’ badging. Reflectors can also be seen on the rear fenders.

From the inside, Same interiors will be seen in new entry-level 1.5 L Diesel 2WD Thar, in terms of features, it will get standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play support as well as wireless charging, roof mounted speakers, automatic AC, multi-functional steering wheel and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
