The National Highways Authority of India is going to increase the rates of toll tax from 1st April. It is being said that the new toll rates may increase by 10 to 15 percent. New toll rates will be applicable on the Agra-Gwalior highway from the night of March 31, 2023. Explain that for those going from Delhi to Agra, the Yamuna Expressway Authority had increased the rate of 80 paise per kilometer in August 2022.

Toll collection will be more than 70 thousand crores in 2023

In the calendar year 2022, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had recorded a 46 per cent increase, which was Rs 50,855 crore, while releasing the figures of electronic toll collection through Fastag. Whereas, in the calendar year 2021, the toll collection was only Rs 34,778 crore. The Ministry has estimated that in the calendar year 2023, there is a plan to increase the total toll collection to Rs 70 thousand crore. In view of this, there is a possibility of increase in toll tax rate.

What is New Toll Tax System?

Presently toll tax is collected through FASTag system but a new system may be introduced soon in its place. Central government is planning to introduce GPS based toll tax collection system.

According to a report, the Government of India is already testing this system on Indian highways. However, the exact location of where the new system is working as a pilot project is not known at the moment.

Under the GPS based toll collection system, customers will pay toll according to the distance traveled on the highway. This means that the more highways you use, the more toll tax you will have to pay.

At present, toll is collected at the toll booths at a stepped rate. It is already working in several European countries and the government says it is quite successful. The government is now planning to implement a similar system.

Mumbai – Pune Expressway Toll Price

Toll fee of Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be increased by up to 18%. On the other hand, the cost of toll of Kudli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway will be increased by 5 to 7 percent, the cost of toll will be from 35 to 105 rupees. This toll fee may be different for heavy vehicles.

Delhi – Meerut Highway Toll Tax

Toll fee for cars on the Delhi-Meerut highway has been increased by Rs 5. At the same time, the toll price has been increased by up to 10% at seven toll gates in Assam. At the same time, a month after the opening of the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway, the toll price is being increased.

It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi a month back. The one-way toll for the car was then Rs 135, which has been increased to Rs 165, while the return journey fare can go up to Rs 205-250.
