After a long wait, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the new model of its popular full size SUV Fortuner GR-S in India on 12th May. This is the top end variant of the Fortuner. Its ex-showroom price has been fixed at Rs 48.43 lakh. It is about Rs 3.8 lakh more expensive than the Fortuner Legender 4X4). The company has launched the new SUV with many cosmetic changes. The GR in Fortuner GR-S stands for Gazoo Racing, which is the racing arm of Toyota. The Fortuner GR-S is made available in a single, full-loaded variant based on the diesel 4×4 AT trim. What’s new in Fortuner GR-S ?
The new Fortuner GR-S is a model based on the Legend. Its look is quite different as compared to the regular model of Fortuner. It gets a new air dam, new fog lamp cluster on the front end along with a redesigned bumper. The GR badging is seen everywhere in the SUV. Like the front grille of the SUV, infotainment system, speedometer, start/stop button, seats, back, the glimpse of GR is visible in many places. The dual-tone alloy wheels with a dark finish look similar to the Legend. The GR-S variant comes with red brake calipers bearing the GR logo.
Toyota Fortuner GR-Sport – Engine Details
The suspension setup of the top-end variant of the new Toyota Fortuner GR-S has been retuned. However, it gets the same 2.8-litre diesel engine that comes mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This engine generates peak power of 201 bhp at 3,000 – 3,400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 – 2,800 rpm. The Fortuner GR Sport variant is offered with a four wheel drive (4WD) system. In this segment of the Indian market, it will compete with MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas and the upcoming Jeep Meridian SUV.

On the outside, the new Fortuner GR-S comes with a number of notable styling tweaks over the regular Fortuner model. It gets blacked-out alloy wheels and a dual-tone radiator grille to give it a sportier appeal. Also, there are GR badges on the grille, fenders and boot lid. The sportier exterior theme includes a black interior with red stitching, GR badging on the steering wheel start-stop button, new instrument cluster and sportier looking pedals.
