Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has finally revealed the price of its hybrid SUV Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider after a long wait. Yes, Toyota Highrider has been introduced in India in trim options like E, S, G and V, which are equipped with Mileage and Strong Hybrid technology. The price of V variant in Toyota Highrider mild hybrid option is Rs 17.09 lakh. At the same time, the S variant of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider Strong Hybrid costs Rs 15.11 lakh, the G variant costs Rs 17.49 lakh and the V variant costs Rs 18.99 lakh. Toyota has released the prices of only the top 4 variants for now, of which three are strong hybrid and one mild-hybrid AWD variant. Prices for the rest of the mild hybrid variants will be announced in a phased manner. Bookings for the new SUV are already underway with a token amount of Rs 25,000. Maruti-Toyota SUV!

These models will be manufactured at the company’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka. It comes as the next model under the Toyota-Suzuki partnership after the Glanza and Urban Cruiser, which are related rebadged versions of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Interestingly, the Hyryder will share its platform, design elements, features and engine with the Maruti Vitara. Both the models are jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota under their joint venture.

Exterior Design: Toyota Hyryder SUV

Talking about the exterior, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder gets a different design front which looks quite luxury. The SUV sports an attractive design with slim LED DRLs just below the chrome-adorned bumpers. Also, the bumper sports headlamps with a slightly different design as compared to other Toyota cars. The design continues till the rear end, with the tail lamps bearing the company’s insignia in the center.

Interiors: Toyota Hyryder SUV

Being a new car, the interiors of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder offer ‘newness’ and comfort. At the rear, the Toyota Hyryder SUV gets slim C-shaped tail-lights that extend to the tailgate along with dual C-shaped parking lamps. The higher variant of the Toyota Urban Cruiser header gets features like panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless charger, a full digital instrument cluster, heads-up display, connected car tech and voice assist with Google and Siri compatibility. Apart from this, it includes wireless charger, cooled seats, heads up display and 360 degree camera. In terms of safety, the Urban Cruiser header gets six airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, ESP, hill-hold assist, 3-point seatbelts for all rear passengers, all-wheel disc brakes and hill descent control. Drive modes are also available in the AWD version.

New Platform:

The Toyota Hyryder SUV will be built on a largely localized version of the company’s TNGA platform. This will help in making its prices competitive. It will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant near Bangalore.

Toyota Hyryder SUV Engine:

There are 2 engines on offer – the Maruti Suzuki-sourced 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid tech called Neo Drive and Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA engine featuring Toyota Hybrid System (THS) and e-drive transmission.

The TNGA engine exerts 91 HP and 122 Nm while the motor puts out 79 HP and 141 Nm. The engine and motor’s combined output is 114 HP. There’s a pure EV mode where the car can be forced to run on electric power alone.

In the Neo Drive, the K series engine puts out the same 101 HP and 135 Nm as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Brezza and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed autobox. It also gets a first-in-the-segment all-wheel-drive system.
