Volkswagen is all set to launch the T-Roc compact SUV later this year in India. Volkswagen unveiled the T-Roc at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017 and it is based on the MQB platform. The compact SUV is positioned below the Tiguan in VW lineup and it measures 4,234 mm length, 1,819 mm width and 1573 mm height. According to reports, the T-Roc will be offered as a CBU (completely built unit) in India with 2,500 units being imported into the country every year without the need for homologation. This is an important car for Volkswagen as it will allow them to tap into the rapidly growing D-segment SUV market. However, this car will not replace the Jetta, but rather sell alongside the sedan. This is an India-bound car and will be VW’s answer to the likes of the Jeep Compass, Renault Capture, Hyundai Tucson as well as the sedans like the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and the Hyundai Elantra.

The Indian-spec T-Roc is likely to be offered with a choice of a 1.5-litre TSI EVO petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. It could get the option of a 6-speed manual along with the tried-and-tested 7-speed DSG gearbox as well.

On the outside, the compact SUV features dual-LED headlights, LED DRLs, 16- to 19-inch wheels, LED tail lights and bi-colour paint. The wide grille looks very attractive and has the VW logo in the centre. The projector twin headlamps are sleek looking ones. It will have daytime running LEDs too. The stylish bumper has fog lamps placed below. There is scuff plate too at the bottom.  The side is slightly boxy looking and gets some body cladding, attractive alloy wheels and a sloping roofline. The lines that run across the vehicle are crisp. Overall semblance of the SUV appears to be sporty, but as mentioned above, plethora of changes are expected to be bestowed on the SUV before it makes to the Indian market. 

The SUV is packed with lots of advanced safety tech and features. Interior highlights include 11.7-inch fully digital touchscreen infotainment system, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, two-zone automatic climate control, largest in segment panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and front seats, wireless charging, 8-speaker sound system and dual-tone colour scheme. The interior design theme of T-Roc is carried over from other Volkswagen models as the steering wheel is a three-spoke unit with lots of controls. The instrument cluster is fully digital and it is packed with lots of information, which can be customised also.
