Tata Motors is working Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos rival car model codename “Blackbird” for Indian SUV segment. The Blackbird will be the perfect rival for segment leader Creta and Seltos. The upcoming Blackbird SUV will be positioned between Tata Nexon and Tata Harrier. The Tata Blackbird will likely be offered with a more powerful version of Tata Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an upgraded version of the same model’s 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. As per the media reports, the Tata Blackbird is being benchmarked against the Chery Tiggo 5x, a Chinese SUV that is sold in other emerging markets as well. However, Tata Motors has not released any communication about the car. Tata seems to be having some major plans for the Indian market. It has plans to get into different segments of the market and is already got lead in the race with its EV launches.

Upcoming Tata Blackbird Exterior Design:
On the design front, the upcoming Tata Blackbird is expected to measure 4.2 metres in length. It will be the first AMP product with its length not restricted to 4,000 mm, which is one of the things Indian automakers do in ICE-powered models for lower GST. The car will be based on Tata’s Impact design language and will borrow elements from the Nexon and Harrier. It may get DRLs on the top and bumper-mounted headlamps like the Harrier and Safari duo. However, it may be earlier to describe about the car design but we are expecting the same elements from the makers. We have to wait for final desing of the car.

Powertrain options on the new Tata Blackbird includes a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 130bhp and 178Nm of torque, as well as a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 118bhp and 270Nm of torque. A six-speed manual unit is standard while the 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre versions also boast with a six-speed automatic transmission respectively.
