Tata motors has launched its most-awaited car “Punch” in India with starting price at Rs. 5.49 lakhs (ex-showroom,) and Top variants cost Rs. 9.09 lakhs. However, these prices are valid for end of 2021 only. Indian buyers can pre-book the car with token money of Rs. 21,000/-* from registered Tata dealers. The new Tata Punch micro- SUV becomes the brand’s smallest SUV and is positioned below the Nexon. Tata launched the this micro-SUV just before the festive season of 2021 and it will be a threat to the likes of the Maruti Ignis, Maruti S-presso and the Mahindra KUV100. The Tata Punch is one of most popular small SUV from the home-grown automaker and also based on the ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible, Advanced) architecture, which currently underpins the Tata Altroz. The Tata Punch is the second vehicle from the company to be built on the new platform and employs the Impact Design 2.0 design philosophy of Tata.

Tata Punch vs Maruti Suzuki S-presso – Design

Exterior:-

From the outside, it can be confirmed that the front bumper and the body cladding have been toned down from the HBX concept. However, the squared wheel arches, upright stance and heavy cladding all around still gives it a proper SUV-like look. The front bumper also features Tata’s signature Y design motifs and also houses a pair of fog lamps. Visually, the Tata Micro SUV comes with the split headlamp setup, with the primary lights positioned below and the LED daytime running lights (DRLs) placed above it, closer to the front grille. The SUV comes with small tail-lamps with Tri-Arrow design LED guide lights, a sculpted tailgate and a faux skid plate. Tata has also said that the Punch (earlier known as HBX) offers best-in-class connectivity features integrated with the highly capable infotainment system.

The exterior of the Maruti S-Presso looks industrial with its upright stance and high bonnet line with some sporty touches. All this is highlighted by black bumpers, flared wheel arches and side cladding with a good ground clearance of 180 mm. Sadly, it gets wheel covers instead of proper alloys. The front gets a slightly tweaked grille similar to what we see on the Vitara Brezza. The turn indicators are mounted on the front fenders. The rear, however, is austere with nothing much going on, except an inserted skid-plate design in the bumper.

Interior:-

Inside of the car, Tata Punch boast with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system for top variants which mounted over the top of the dashboard. This will allow for an easy view, hence less distraction. Also, such set-up isn’t available in any of its competitors yet. The Tata Punch also gets an semi-digital instrument cluster. Though as confirmed, but it shares the same unit as seen on the Altroz premium hatchback. Besides everything above, the Tata Punch also less with the best-in-class audio system from Harman. The system could use four speakers and four/two tweeters.

Maruti S-Presso interior l ooks are funky due to the colored elements in the cabin such as colored AC vents, inside of the C pillar and the surround of the SmartPlay audio system. SmartPlay System also offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Like other Maruti cars, the S-Presso’s fabric seats are comfortable and supportive. There is power steering, front power windows and manual air conditioning. The center stage of the dashboard is taken by an instrument cluster which sits above the SmartPlay system. The AC controls and the steering wheel has been borrowed from the WagonR while ORVMs are only been manually adjustable.
