Germans best Les Blues to storm into last four!!

A little draining game as this clash between the equally formidable Germany and the majestic France failed to live up the thrill scale expectations of fans all over the world. However with so many Germans rising to the occasion and delivering with great panache and aplomb the German fans could not ask for more.

Germany are through to the World Cup semifinals after a 1-0 victory over France. The game’s only goal came inside a quarter of an hour, with a strangely subdued France failing to respond to early Mats Hummels’ opener.

It took only 12 minutes for Hummels to head Toni Kroos floated free-kick beyond Hugo Lloris, as Germany took full advantage of France’s lethargic start. Manuel Neuer made two unbelievable saves; Bastian Schweinsteiger dominated midfield; Thomas Muller, the dynamo of Deutschland, never stopped running; the lower his socks fell, the lower French spirits fell.

Even after going behind Les Bleus lacked their usual intensity, and looked to sit deep and invite pressure rather than trying to win the ball back high up the field. At the other end, France pierced Germany’s high defensive line to produce chances for Valbuena and Benzema but goalkeeper Neuer was equal to both attackers’ efforts.

The weather conditions played a pivotal part in the slow tempo of the game but France stepped up the pressure in the second half, with Neuer saving a header from Varane as the center back tried to atone for his weak defending for the goal.

Germany began their journey in this edition with a 4-0 thrashing of Portugal, drew with Ghana 2-2 after trailing at one stage and beat the USA 1-0 in their last match in the group. In the Round of 16, the Germans tamed a spirited Algeria 2-1 in the extra time to make their ninth successive quarter finals.

France, on the other hand, beat Honduras 3-0 in their opening campaign and followed it with a 5-2 drubbing of Switzerland after going 5-0 up at one stage and drew 0-0 with Ecuador. France beat Nigeria, another African team to have made the last 16, in their pre-quarterfinal game by two goals to nil.

Well, they did it again, It’s four on the trot now – a record. Germany have not missed a World Cup semi-final date this century: 2002, 2006, 2010, now 2014
