Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has huge plans for the domestic market in the coming years with new launches. Ahead of which upgrading the current portfolio to BSVI standards is also a priority. The latest report on the internet suggests that Maruti Suzuki will be reviving the iconic Zen name for an upcoming product based on the indigenous concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. It will be a subcompact SUV slotted below the highly successful Vitara Brezza. If media reports are to be believed, Maruti could re-introduce the iconic “ZEN” nameplate with this micro SUV. This model will rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100 NXT and the upcoming Tata Hornbill. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine that produces 82bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT options will be on offer. It is reported to be called the new-generation “Maruti Suzuki ZEN”, however, Maruti is yet to make an official announcement. Testing of the new model has already been commenced, while the launch is likely in the second half of 2021 before Diwali festive season.

Maruti Suzuki could be eyeing a big pie in the segment and spy shots indicate that the road-going version has indeed taken design inspiration from the Concept Future S with the upright front fascia, thick pillars and a compact rear end with raised ground clearance giving it the appeal of an SUV. The interior boasts a large digital instrument cluster sitting in the middle of the dashboard as seen in the concept as well.
