Having made an impact with the innovative, 7-seat Triber last year, Renault India has finally launched its much-awaiting compact SUV in India – the Kiger. The Kiger is a Renault’s smallest SUV for India till the date. The Renault Kiger made its global debut on January 28, 2021. Not only has its mass production commenced at Renault India’s manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai, its dealer dispatches have also started. The Renault Kiger has been launched in India, with introductory prices starting from Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). Renault’s first compact SUV can be had in four trim levels and four engine-gearbox combinations. Based on the same CMF-A+ platform as the Triber, the Kiger shares the same engine and transmission options as well. The Renault Kiger rivals other sub-4m SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser.
Another side, Tata has launched the Punch with a starting price of Rs. 5.49 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), today in India. “Punch” micro-SUV car can be pre-booked officially with Rs. 21,000/-*. Based on the ALFA architecture that also underpins the Altroz too. With a youthful exterior design and a contemporary interior, the Punch comes with plentiful features current buyers look for in a car from the affordable segment. Tata Motors claims that the Tata Punch comes with a great look and powerful features at an affordable price, after which there is a ruckus in the market. Showcased as pre-production concept of a ‘micro SUV’ at the 2020 Auto Expo. Tata Punch powered by an 1199cc, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine good for 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque powers the car. Renault Kiger vs Tata Punch – Design
The Renault Kiger is based on the CMFA+ platform that also underpins the Triber, Kwid and the Nissan Magnite. Design wise, the Kiger sports a sculpted bonnet and a large ‘winged’ front grille (with honeycomb-shaped chrome elements) and split, all-LED headlight setup. At the side, Renault has given the Kiger flared wheel arches and a downward sloping roofline that ends in a blacked-out C-pillar.At the rear, there are distinctive C-shaped LED tail-lights and the Kiger also gets a small spoiler element and faux-aluminium skid plate.
On the other hand, The production-ready HBX (Now Punch) will be based on Tata’s Impact 2.0 design language, which will lend it a macho looking front fascia with a split headlamp setup. The car could also come equipped with faux skid plates on both ends, which will enhance its rugged and SUV-ish appeal. At the rear will be tri-arrow shaped LED tail lights, which were seen on the car’s test mule.
Interior
Inside, the Kiger gets a layered dashboard with glossy black and chrome highlights on the centre console and steering wheel. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is mounted high on the centre of the dash above the central AC vents, and almost in-line with a 7.0-inch TFT digital instrumentation display. A number of switches, stalks and the steering wheel are shared with the Triber, though the Kiger’s steering unit gets controls for the infotainment system.The cabin is also practical, with Renault claiming a total of 29 liters of storage compartments available inside.
Another side, Tata HBX (Now Punch) car interiors are concerned, This car is designed to be a super compact SUV while retaining the majority of the features of a full-size SUV. The car has also been retained as per the auto expo model. Golden highlights have been removed, but you won’t complain about it either. The flat-bottom steering, infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen music system, automatic dual climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, power steering, power window and much more.
