Ford EcoSport:
The Ford EcoSport is a sub-4 metre SUV that boasts of refreshing looks. On its front, the imposing, high-mounted front hexagonal grille coupled with great aerodynamics is amazing to look at. At its rear, it has a wrapped-around windshield. Its spare-wheel is mounted on the tailgate. With an impressive 200 mm ground clearance, the EcoSport dares to undertake all potholes and speed breakers. From inside, it looks a bit like the Fiesta. Though Ford is known for its solid interiors but these are just average in the EcoSport. Yet it is spacious. Its front seats are good on comfort, but the rear ones lag on it.
Mahindra Quanto (Discontinued):
On the other hand, Mahindra Quanto is a traditional multi-utility vehicle. Precisely it is the compressed version of the Xylo. Its boxy looks might not be fascinating to the onlooker but where it gains maximum marks is the space. It also has its spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. Following the same 2769mm wheelbase of Xylo, the Quanto has a spacious cabin. Though it is a seven seater, the seats are too upright to offer any comfort.
Ford EcoSport vs Mahindra Quanto – Performance:
As far as performance is concerned, the EcoSport is not at all disappointing. It comes in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant is again available in two set of tunings. Its 1499 cc TiVCT petrol engine delivers the maximum power of 110 Bhp at 6300 rpm and torque of 140 Nm at 4400 rpm, while the 999 cc petrol EcoBoost engine offers the peak power of 123.3 Bhp at 6000 rpm and torque of 170 Nm at 1400-4500 rpm. Talking about the diesel one, it’s a 1498 cc engine that offers the maximum power of 89.8 Bhp at 3750 rpm and torque of 204 Nm at 2000-2750 rpm. The EcoSport also has two transmission systems, 5-speed manual and 6-speed Power-shift automatic.
The EcoSport is efficient when you are driving in the city, but it starts doing huff and puff when you get on the highways or in the hills. But this must not a setback as Ford has always claimed it an urban SUV which is meant for city driving. Its ‘Pull Drift Compensation’ technology adjusts according to the steering wheel to changing road conditions and prevents the driver from letting the car to drift. Its suspension enables to take the corners easily without compromising on the ride quality.
The Mahindra Quanto is propelled by a sub 1.5-litre diesel engine. This 1493cc motor is called the mCR100, which is a twin-stage turbocharger and inter-cooled engine. It delivers 100 PS of peak power at 3750 rpm and 240 Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800 rpm. Its 5-speed manual gearbox vibrates little bit on starting up. This sub 4-metre vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 17 seconds. The Quanto is fine for city driving with an average mileage of 14 kmpl.

Verdict:
The EcoSport is also amazing on its features and safety applications, whereas the Quanto is a plain utilitarian vehicle that has lots of space but lacks in safety and comfort. If you want a package of style, mileage and comfort, then definitely Ford EcoSport is the best to possess. Else, go for Mahindra Quanto.
