Mahindra Bolero vs Renault Duster – Appearance:

The Mahindra Bolero has been revamped with reworked headlights and a tweaked grille on its exterior. However, the interiors have a digital tale to tell. All its traditional dials have been replaced by digital displays. Its two-tone interiors are complemented by wood-finish inserts, power windows, immobiliser, aircon, and rear wash/wipe. It still lacks in seating comfort and space. It has got a muscular presence on the road.

Bold, aggressive and sporty looks make Duster a real head-turner. Its front end has been given a chrome finished radiator grille along with stylish body coloured bumper and a pair of bright fog lamps, on each side. It has got double optic head lamps that let you see the road clearly at night. Further, its aerodynamic design helps to cut down turbulence and wind noise. If we talk about the side profile, the waistline is absolutely convincing. The body coloured door handles, fuel lid and outside rear view mirrors are striking. On the rear end of Duster, you will find vertically positioned tail lamps, skid plate, curvy boot lid and high mounted stop light, hexagonal windshield with a rear wiper, reflectors and the Renault Logo.

Mahindra Bolero vs Renault DusterPerformance:

As far as performance is concerned, the Bolero comes with a 4-cylinder 2523cc engine with a common rail head. It generates 63bhp of power and 197Nm of torque. The good news is that it is quieter than the old DI engine. With just 63bhp of power, it can accelerate to 100kph in 27.6 seconds. Given the space and time, the Bolero can hit 133kph. With fuel efficiency of 10.1kpl in the city and 12.8kpl on the highway, the Bolero offers decent mileage as compared to other cars in this segment. It is quite good in part-throttle responses and ride quality, along with quiet suspension. However, it’s not good on handling; it has got tractor like brakes. All in all, the Bolero is fine for rural roads given to its ruggedness.

The Renault has offered this remarkable SUV in two versions, Diesel and Petrol. Further the diesel engine is available in 83.5bhp and 108.5bhp options. The more powerful diesel variant has a variable geometry turbocharger and an intercooler, which generates the peak power of 108.5bhp at 3,900rpm and 200Nm of torque. The other variant produces 83.8bhp of power at 3,750rpm and the peak torque of 200Nm at 1,900rpm. However, if we talk about petrol engine, it is a 1.6-litre, K4M 1,598cc engine offering 102.6bhp of peak power at 5850rpm and 145Nm of peak torque at 3750rpm. The petrol and the 85PS diesel engine versions come with a 5-speed gearbox. Talking about handling, the Duster is smooth and swift, and can easily endure rough or hilly terrains. Besides this, it offers the best mileage in its class.

Verdict:

The Bolero is definitely a tough and true workhorse. Seeing the price range along with deficit of seating comfort and space inside, it is quite good to ride on rugged roads. After checking out the Duster, it seems that Renault has been watching this segment and has got ticked all the right boxes for the perfect city SUV. Moreover, it comes with petrol and diesel engine options, with the diesel offered in two set of tunes. If you want to hit more of city roads, then Duster would be a better choice thanks to its decent finish and good ride quality.
