Appearance – Inside & Outside:
If we talk about Duster, it is absolutely a head-turner with its masculine, edgy, rugged and aggressive looks; yet it has a modern feel to it, without negotiating on the real essence of a typical SUV. Sporty bumpers, flared wheel arches and sporty roof rails add to its appeal. On its front, it has chrome grille though the headlamps are bland. From its rear, it looks elegant. As far as its interiors are concerned, the Renault has taken care of that as well. The car boasts of a little curvy dashboard and center console, which looks pretty chic. Its seats are very comfortable and there is enough boot space to keep the luggage as well. The Duster has got almost everything that comes in a luxurious SUV along with great looks.
Mahindra Scorpio is definitely a characterized SUV that features redesigned multi-focal headlamps, road armour bumpers, bonnet air scoop, integrated footsteps, side cladding with Scorpio embossing, and sporty fog lamps. From inside, the Scorpio is more like an ordinary car with nothing outstanding. However, it has everything to keep you at comfort both while driving as well as while sitting. To put in concise terms, Scorpio has got many features but Duster is also not deprived. If you look for space and features, Scorpio is a good choice. But Duster wins the race when it comes to appeal.
Performance:
Both the Duster and the Scorpio are available in two engine options. The Renault has blessed Duster with a 1.5 litre CRDi diesel engine that generates 85 bhp & 200 Nm and 110 bhp & 228 Nm for two different variants respectively. On the other hand, the Scorpio has two different engine options, a m2DiCR and a mHawk which produce 75 bhp & 220 Nm and 120 bhp & 290 Nm respectively.
Both the engines perform decent but the mHawk diesel offer considerably better torque. Regarding fuel efficiency, the Duster outperforms the Scorpio with an ARAI certified mileage of 20.46 kmpl and 19 kmpl as against Scorpio’s 14 kmpl and 12.88 kmpl. Thus, Duster is a better choice with an engine delivering not only decent power but good mileage also.
As far as handling is concerned, the Duster is great on riding; it soaks bumps with ease and is precise around corners even at high speeds. Its body roll is limited and provides good comfort level. While the Scorpio with its tall body design, definitely has an impressive road presence. However, it lacks stability around sharp corners. The comfort level it provides is just satisfactory. If we talk about driving dynamics, the Duster leads the competition.

Verdict:
Mahindra Scorpio is apparently an old machine that has nothing extraordinary to offer. Though it is powerful, Duster is no less either. The Renault Duster wins the race given to its refreshingly stylish looks and luxurious interiors, accompanied by easy handling and extra mileage.
