Mahindra & Mahindra recently unveiled the new-generation Thar SUV with lots of design, feature and mechanical updates. The off-road SUV’s new model will hit Indian roads on October 2, 2020. The carmaker says that “the Thar is a quantum leap in terms of performance, everyday comfort & convenience, technology and safety”. The all-new Mahindra Thar has finally been revealed in full. It’s no coincidence Mahindra chose India’s 74th Independence Day to unveil its next-gen off-roader, as it wants its new 4×4 to be viewed as an icon of freedom. In its new generation, the car has been unveiled in two variants – LX and AX. The SUV is based on Mahindra’s GEN-3 platform and will be sold in two engine variants including a 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDI petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit. The former has an output of 150bhp and 320 Nm, while the latter delivers 130bhp and 300 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic unit.

Talking about exteriors, all-new Thar has retained some of its core design characteristic such as the seven slot grille and round headlamps. Updates include LED lights, LED DRLs, prominent fenders and 5-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, new Thar has rectangular shaped tail lights that come with ‘Thar’ badging. Reflectors can also be seen on rear fenders. Sturdy looking chrome skid plate is another feature that enhances the SUVs bold looks.

From the inside, Reworked dashboard is enveloped in two tone colour theme, there is a provision for 2-DIN music system on the CRDe grade. Also, the multi-directional AC vents are embedded only on the CRDe trim. Besides, new gear knob, redesigned door trims, modified centre console with cup holders, new 12V charging point for charging mobile phones, a new 3-pod instrument cluster, new premium seats and a new lockable glovebox inside the cabin spruce up the interiors prominently.
